Street Talk

Chris’s ministry is directed almost entirely to reaching the un-evangelised. His job is to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ to people wherever they are. Places such as shopping precincts and especially the seafront where he lives in Eastbourne. His methods of drawing a crowed include sketch-board preaching and the use of other effective visual aids.

Chris has often been asked if open-air evangelism is effective in today’s society. He says this:

“I have discovered that looking back can sometimes help us to move forward. I was looking through some letters I had received some years ago and it made me realise the responsibility I have towards God in the ministry that He has given me. This letter was from Brighton and Hove Town Mission shortly after doing an Open Air for them. It reads as follows:

Dear Chris,

It was good to hear from you the other day and to receive details of a contact to be followed up.I called the following day on Kathleen Fitzgerald and was also introduced to her friend Gail. They are both in the process of coming of drugs through the work of DAA - the drugs equivalent of AA.

Kathleen heard you preach in Churchill Square Brighton and responded to your appeal to accept literature. She remembered your talk, which featured a monkey with its hand trapped in a barrel, refusing to let go of the peanuts, which would have meant freedom. This message really spoke to her as she was trapped by drugs and wanted to be free.

It is good to report that they are both of drugs and wish to remain in contact with me. There is real evidence of God working in their lives of which they are aware. Do remember them in your prayers and me as I seek to point them to the Saviour.

You may recall me mentioning the alcoholic called Matthew who heard your message at Easter 92 during the Beach Baptism organised by Bishop Hannington Church. He was Baptised this Easter (in the sea) and gave a powerful testimony. To date he has been off drink for nineteen months and has become the verger at BH. His children, from whom he has been alienated for many years, have indicated, that if he remains dry for two years they will consider seeing him again. Please remember this in your prayers. As a further encouragement he is frequently witnessing about the power of Jesus to save and mend broken lives.

It is good to see that the Lord is blessing your ministry. So be encouraged, be faithful and under the Lord’s anointing continue to be fruitful.

With greetings in the Lord
